One In Messiah:
Many Christians ask why we should spend time studying the Old Testament. After all, Yeshua, Jesus, came to abolish the Law and to establish a New Covenant which is based on grace, not law.
Also, the Old Testament ( the Tanakh) has all those names, all those battles and all that bloodshed. God was really mean then but now He is nice and loving. He used to have wrath but now He is just love.
Well, if you begin studying the Bible in Matthew 1:1, you miss two-thirds of the Scriptures and you don't get the full picture of why Jesus came and what He accomplished in His once for all Sacrifice. He tells us in John 5:39 that all the scrolls are about Him. That includes the books of the Old Testament.
We study Yeshua (Jesus) in the culture into which He came, the Covenant that He followed, and the Salvation He provided apart from the Law of the Old Covenant.
Another amazing fact about the Scriptures is that there are parallels in meanings and fulfillment. There are so many types and pre-figurements of Messiah in the Old Testament that point to Him as the Substance. There are many events in the Old Testament that are fulfilled then and again later in the New Testament. This is a large part of the teaching that I attempt to present. I began studying the Torah as a new believer. It was difficult! After some time I began to see how Yeshua (Jesus) was pre-figured in the Books of Moses. I saw the types that pointed to Him. There was constant blood atonement that pre-figured the Cross and the Blood. There were powerful mediators between the people and God. It made me understand the amazing Plan of Salvation. Some years ago, I put together a Torah class for Christians who really didn't know much about Torah. The emphasis was on two things. First, a survey knowledge of the Books of Moses and second, all the types and shadows within them that point to Yeshua the Messiah. I have now begun compiling these in video form in a new YouTube channel called "The Torah Class." Podcasts |
